Why Baptism?

Welcome to St. Boniface and thank you for your interest in the sacrament of Baptism! We're happy to walk with you and your family on this journey of preparing for and receiving this most important sacrament. 

Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as children of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission. —CCC, no.1213

Baptism for Children and Adults

How do we begin? The process of preparing for baptism begins by contacting our staff:

• For children age 6 or younger, please contact Beth Henderson in the parish office at 515-987-4597 or bhenderson@stbonifacechurch.org

Baptism Formation for Parents

Parents desiring Baptism for a child of any age participate in a formation process before their child is baptized. At least one godparent also participates in this process:

1. First, complete the online course, Belonging. Laurie Salz will provide you with information to access the course.
2. Next, attend the in-person session, Preparing for Baptism. Sessions meet on Saturdays 10-11:30am in the Mary & Joseph Room and childcare is provided.
