Description
We've all received charisms (spiritual gifts) in Baptism and Confirmation through which God intends his love to reach others. Called & Gifted is an introduction to charisms and the process of discernment, with information that will help you explore and begin the process of discovering God’s call in your life. Come and discover these charisms in you!Three-part process
Called & Gifted is a three-part process developed by the Catherine of Siena Institute that includes 1) an introductory workshop that consists of five sessions, 2) a 60-minute spiritual gifts interview, and 3) discernment in depth that lasts for six weeks. All three parts of the process are necessary for discovering where you are gifted.
1) Introductory Workshop
The introductory workshop (five sessions) is offered about twice a year St. Boniface. The cost is $50 and will be collected at the first session. Included is:
- One copy of the Complete Resource Manual
- Six months access to the videos for personal use
- One-time use of the Catholic Spiritual Gifts Inventory

After completing the introductory Called & Gifted workshop and taking the Catholic Spiritual Gifts Inventory, the second step is a one-hour personal gifts interview. Gifts interviewers trained by the Catherine of Siena Institute will meet with you at a mutually agreed upon date and time. Parishioners Marie and Dean Kayser and staff member Faye Akers are all trained gifts interviewers or can direct you to other trained interviewers in the Des Moines area.
3) Discernment in Depth
After completing the introductory workshop and your gifts interview, you are ready to begin discernment. You can complete discernment on your own, with a spiritual director, or over four sessions in a small group here at St. Boniface using your Complete Resource guide.

How Called & Gifted helped me find Joy
"A friend of mine went through “Called and Gifted Workshop” and loved it. It was inspiring to see her using the gifts she discovered within herself. I was curious to learn more about the workshop. My husband and I decided to do this together.
I wish I had discovered Called & Gifted earlier in my life. For so long, I volunteered for things I thought was right, thinking that was what I was supposed to do. But “Called and Gifted” discernment sessions opened my eyes to what truly makes me happy and how I can serve Christ in a meaningful way. It helped me recognize the gifts I've received from the power of the Holy Spirit—gifts that go beyond my usual skills and talents. Embracing these gifts to help others has brought me so much joy—and besides, I have even uncovered gifts and abilities I never knew I had!
One of my Charisms, HOSPITALITY, did not come as a big surprise, but was deeply reassuring to have this gift be confirmed through these discernment sessions. The other Charism, EVANGELIZATION, came as a complete surprise, and if it wasn't for “Called and Gifted Workshop” and the support and encouragement I received from facilitators, my husband, and those with me on this discernment journey, I may never have discovered it.
I am now finding myself using these particular Charisms—gifts of the Holy Spirit—on a regular basis and continue to look for ways to be the channel of Christ’s love everyday. My prayer life and my relationship with Jesus and our parish has gotten stronger and intentional since the unveiling of these Charisms. I invite all parishioners to take advantage of the workshop to help you discover your particular gifts for Building a Community of Joyful Disciples at St. Boniface parish."
